Colleen manages much of Tarpley & Underwood’s individual income tax compliance work as well as working with estates and trusts.  She began her accounting career at Arthur Andersen and Deloitte & Touche before joining the firm in January 2004.  Colleen graduated summa cum laude from Georgia State University with her BBA in Accounting and continued at Georgia State earning her Masters in Taxation.  Colleen was chosen to participate in the Arthur Andersen Tax Challenge as an undergraduate student where she helped GSU earn a spot among the top ten teams.  She was chosen to participate again as a graduate student.  Those experiences helped her make the decision to pursue her accounting career in the area of taxation.  She is a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants.  Colleen serves on the Finance Committee of Highpoint Community Church.

Colleen considers her career in the accounting field to be her second life.  Her previous life included being a homemaker and working in Purchasing for a company that kept her traveling between Atlanta and Hayward, California.  She spends her relaxation time reading and has recently taken up cross-stitching.  Colleen and her husband, Don, enjoy many do-it-yourself projects around their home and have completed several extensive renovations.  The O’Connells also love to hike the great outdoors together and are on the National Park Circuit, as they say, hiking such parks as Yellowstone.  Although Colleen lived throughout the States as a child, she considers herself a true Southerner.  Her daughter has recently married leaving Colleen and Don with a home in Lilburn that they are sure to continue remodeling themselves.
