After working in the accounting field for two firms in Athens and Atlanta, Harvey was employed by a Decatur CPA firm, where he worked for twelve years, the last six as a partner. In January, 1978, he co-founded Tarpley & Underwood. Currently, Harvey spends significant time with clients dealing with profit enhancement analysis, consulting on management matters, and assisting with income and estate tax planning matters. Previously, he headed up the accounting and auditing practice where he was engaged by manufacturing, distribution, construction, retail, service and non-profit companies. Harvey is and has been involved in a variety of professional activities. He is a past member of the Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a Past- President of the Georgia Society of CPAs. Prior to that, he served as Treasurer, Vice-President, and Director-At-Large for the Georgia Society. His work extends into the DeKalb Chapter of the GSCPA as well, where he was President. He served on the Uniform Accountancy Act Task Force and the Task Force on Restructuring the GSCPA also. He has been Chairman and a Member of various Society committees including Strategic Planning, Insurance Advisory, Personnel, Nominating, Gender Issues, Membership, and Accounting and Auditing Review. He also served on the Management of an Accounting Practice Committee, Meritorious Service Award Committee, and Accounting Career Awareness and Education Committee. He is the past President of the Board of Directors of the Accountants Professional Liability Insurance Group of Monterey, California.
In the area of civic and community services, Harvey is the President of the Board of Directors of The Georgia Club Foundation. He is currently the Treasurer and a Member of the Board of Directors of The Educational Foundation of the Georgia Society of CPAs. He is also a Past-President of the Decatur Lions Club, Past-Treasurer and Director of the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and has served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the DeKalb Tech Foundation and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Andrew P. Stewart Center in Atlanta.
Harvey and his wife, Sylvia, have three sons and two daughters-in-law. Harvey is enjoying his new role of grandfather to four grandchildren. Harvey and Sylvia live in Statham where they are members of The Georgia Club in Statham and are active members of Beech Haven Baptist Church in Athens, where they teach a class for newlyweds and nearlyweds and Harvey is Chairman of the Stewardship Committee. |
